Cozy – Small English Village – Murder
In 1965, at a county fair, Frances receives an ominous fortune – that one day, she will be murdered! Sixty years later, her great-niece Annie is summoned to a meeting with her, only to find Frances dead and several potential heirs set up to hunt down her killer in order to gain their inheritance.
This one is a great read for those who are fans of British mystery shows on tv. Their is a charming village and plenty of characters lined up as suspects.
The Paper Magician
Magical – World Building – Fantastical
Ceony always dreamed of working with the bespellment of metal, but upon graduating first in her class at Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined, she learns she has been assigned to work with paper. She is sent to live and study with her mentor, Emery Thane. When he is attacked by his ex-wife and his heart stolen, Ceony must go on an odd journey to rescue him.
This first in The Paper Magician series is a great introduction into the world of magic workers and their chosen mediums. It’s a whimsical and somewhat dark world where materials are controlled by those who have the power.
Cloud Cuckoo Land
Multiple Timelines – Family – Fairy Tales
In three vastly different timelines we encounter the story of Cloud Cuckoo Land being passed down in families and impacting their current situations. We visit Constantinople in 1453, Idaho in 2020 and the future in a spaceship and meet so many fascinating characters along the way.
I loved the pace of this book and the way that the stories, so vastly different, interwove with each other.
