The Book of Longings
By: Sue Monk Kidd
In both her fiction and her non fiction, Sue Monk Kidd has taken on many spiritual and family issues, especially for women and The Book of Longings is no different.
The story centers around Ana, who becomes the fictitious wife of Jesus. But this is not a story about Jesus. It is a fascinating historical fiction novel about a young woman trying to have a voice at a time when women were voice less.
The central story is wonderful and you can tell a lot of research went in to making the settings and characters as accurate as possible. I was also intrigued by the imagined motivations of some of the familiar characters. Watch out! Ana’s brother is none other than Judas!
Sue Monk Kidd did a virtual author visit with the Atlanta History Center. To here more about how and why she wrote the book, click here to watch the video.
