The Battle of the Bookshops is a delightful cozy, British romance. I also love the nod to Romeo and Juliet, see if you can pick it up below. Jules returns home to help her great aunt run the bookstore that has been in her family for a hundred years. She grew up living above it and loves caring for it. Almost immediately, a large corporate bookstore opens across the street, run by the Montbeau’s. Knowing they won’t be able to compete with the low prices and fancy interior, Jules has to get creative to save Capelthorne’s Books.
The two families are at war with each other already and the battle of the bookshops only heats it up. Enter Roman Montbeau, the wealthy son of the family, freshly back from New York and Jules’ childhood crush.
This story goes exactly where you think it will, being a romance. But that doesn’t take away from the delightful journey. The small town feel means its full of fun characters and that everyone’s family is full of characters!
