It’s that time of year again! Spooky, moody reading time. Now that it is finally feeling like fall around here, it is time to pull out the books about witches and spells and uncovering secrets. Here are three I am looking forward to.
The Unmaking of June Farrow
By: Adrienne Young
What could be more Halloween than a centuries old curse? In a small town where he family runs a flower farm, June is starting to hear and see things that aren’t there. This seems like a classic female family curse story that is filled with magic and romance. This will be a great October read.
The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic
By: Breanne Randall
With comparisons to Practical Magic, Gilmore Girls and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, how can this one not be on the list? Past loves and hurts return to town for Sadie Revelare and the balance she has built starts to tilt. While seemingly a stereotypical romance, this one still hold the possibility for a magical Halloween read.
The Crossing Places
By: Elly Griffiths
Archaeologist Ruth Galloway lives in a remote place near Norfolk. When a child’s bones are dug up nearby, she is drawn into an old mystery and could become part of a new one. Just reading the blurb about this one makes me want to dive right in. What could be more spooky than bones and creepy letters? This is the first book in a series as well, so here’s hoping I have found a new series to love!
Bonus: Here is a great list of these and more spooky reads. And Harry Potter is always a good Halloween reread.
