Spread the love

I know this seems like the kind of list you don’t want to put on a blog, but I wanted to talk today about the books I didn’t finish. The ones that I just couldn’t bring myself to dedicate any more time to. Why would I do this? Just because a book doesn’t work for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. So here are some books that are just waiting for someone to finish them, because I just couldn’t.

The Pine Away Motel and Cabins

In this novel, which I picked up because it sounded a little Schitt’s Creek-ish, we meet Henny just after she has died. Not a spoiler, it literally is what is happening on the first page. And to me, it was down hill from there. She wanders around watching her friends and family deal with her death. That is it, the death on the first page was the climax of the story. If you like a slow paced book about friendships and small towns, this might be the one for you.

The Pretender’s Lady

I love all things Scottish, which is why I thought I would love this historical fiction piece about Flora McDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie. So this is one that I may go back to. But the first attempt a t reading didn’t get very far. This is a story that takes us from the highlands to America and back, so you expect sweeping epic, but I couldn’t get on board. This book was well researched and that may have been where it lost me. There was a little too much history in this fiction!

The Last two books in the Knitting Mystery Series

I loved this series at the very beginning. A few months ago, I realized that I had stopped reading before the end of the series. So I picked up the last two from an online used book store. Then I remembered why I never finished. The characters in this book are exhausting. I think maybe 5 or 6 books would have been fine. I recommend the beginning of the series, but unless you like endless descriptions of an accountant working on spreadsheets and complaining about things, stop early!
