You know you have asked yourself this question too. The series you watch on your Acorn subscription, the cozy mysteries you can’t put down in the winter. They all take place in a small village where you can walk to the pub, that you would die to live in. Although, if TV and books are to be believed, dying is exactly what you might do.
There are two series that I particularly enjoy in both book and binge watching format:
The Shetland Island Series
Shetland the tv series came first for me and I have since started reading some of the books. They both have a lot of atmosphere and sweeping Scottish scenery in them. The stories in this one are a little darker than some of the others, but you can’t beat DI Perez!
You can watch Shetland in several streaming services, here is the link for PBS, where you can watch some episodes for free.

Grantchester
I actually stumbled upon these independently. Not realizing they were connected. The only character that can maybe compete with DI Perez, is our cleric/detective Syndey Chambers, mostly because in Grantchester, we have a duo with him and Geordie. And how could you not love a black lab names Dickens. You can start with either the books or the tv show. They are very different, just loosely based.
You can watch Grantchester, which is a Masterpiece series here.

The following are book series only, but maybe one day, we can watch these on our Acorn TV too!

The Thursday Murder Club
If, like me, this still hasn’t discouraged you from moving to a small village where you can walk to the pub, you have to try out Escape to the Country.
