It’s too hot to do much but read if you are in the South in July. And to be honest, I read 13 books and it has made me a little obsessive. All I want to do is read books!
Sandwich

Many of us are in the part of life where we are caring for parents as well as the children in our life. My favorite part of Sandwich is that our female protagonist is in middle age and still trying to find herself, or maybe trying to re-find herself. Dealing with the unexplainable moods and heat of menopause, she is also trying to help her mother through a health crisis and guide her adult children. While the family in this book is a little too into talking about everyone’s sex life for me, I enjoyed the struggle Rocky had to go through to come to grips with this phase of her life.
How to Read a Book

Small Town – Starting Over – Redemption
This recommendation from my mom was a great read I did not expect. Harriett is a retired school teacher who runs a book club at the local women’s prison. You think you will not want to care about inmates, but you really do. All of the characters in the book are unexpectedly loveable and the charming Maine setting makes it even better. A wonderful story about how to overcome the mistakes and the bad stuff in your life and find a way forward.
Funny Story

Romance – Small Town – Friendship
Daphne finds herself stuck. Stuck in the town her ex-fiancé grew up in. Stuck in an apartment with her Ex-fiancé’s new fiancé’s ex-fiancé. Nothing seems like hers except the job she loves at the local library. Her new roommate challenges her to start exploring the town even as she looks for ways to get out of it. A pretty predictable love story that you will see coming, but for an end of summer read, it can be just right.
