I chose The Overdue Life of Amy Byler for the 2019 Brown Dog Reading Challenge as my book by an author with the same name as me!
It was also a recommendation from the Podcast What Should I Read Next.
If you have a mom’s book club, this would be the perfect selection. Not personally being a mom, I can’t relate to some of the themes, but they would lead to very interesting discussions. Amy is a mom and a school librarian (although, in the one major flaw, she apparently is super model gorgeous.) who when her husband returns after abandoning the family for three years, takes off for a summer in New York.
Her old college friend works for a lifestyle magazine and foots the bill for a makeover of her whole life. At the end of the summer, there are a lot of decisions to be made.
While the book is a good, easy read and Amy’s life in New York in envious, I feel like this is one of those books where the discussions about it would be more interesting than the reading!
